Earlier MAN RAY SKY music video. Bleached and inked. They are playing on 1st July at Dusk Till Dawn
and some insight to their minds:
Who are you and where did the name come from?
We are Man Ray Sky - a band from Brighton who formed as the backing band for Mark’s solo project. We then decided to write as a band and throw all of our vast and varied influences together to see what happened.
We are -
Andrew Aruldoss, Mark Nathan Benton, Mike Shirley, Gee Sowerby and JS Thornton plus sometimes we have some friends along for the ride. We all play different instruments. The name came from an REM lyric. “a Man Ray kind of sky” more because we liked art thing plus the three letter per three words was cool - rather than being super REM fans.
Next best thing to being in a band?
if i wasn’t in a band then i’d like to house-sit for extremely rich people with massive houses in cool cities. always sounded like a good way to spend your time.
Band you wish you started?
The Beatles. although if i’d started it then it wouldn’t be half as good. or maybe it would.
Gig you’ll never forget?
for Man Ray Sky - supporting Deerhoof was a blast and they were really cool with us. Watching Prince at Wembley Stadium in 1993 was also pretty mind blowing. although someone that small shouldn’t play big gigs because you can’t see them if you’re too far away.
Favourite track of the moment?
we don’t really listen to much chart music.. anything by tame impala. tune yards are also good. the new Fleet Foxes album has some cracking tunes on it.
Link you’d love to show right now?
www.beatabet.net the collective that we’re part of.
Are you considering closing your myspace account?
yes we are. but we might leave it to wither and die on its own
Track you’d never cover?
‘easy lover’ cause we’d never do it justice
Favourite music video?
anything by Michel Gondry. “House of Cards” by radiohead is good.
Movie you wish you made soundtrack for?
2001 A Space Odyssey - although that already has a pretty good soundtrack.
Man Ray Sky interview on killing their myspace, supporting Deerhoof and some other randomness.
